Lei is a graduate of Shanghai Jiaotong University, School of Medicine. She focused on metabolic syndrome in mice during her penultimate year in college leading to her interest in scientific research. As a graduate student, she studied mitochondria dynamics, lipid metabolism and immunity at the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. After graduation, she pursued her postdoc career at Yale University studying the dynamics of cellular proliferation. Lei is a super fan of live-cell imaging and is keen on watching intracellular activities with this approach. She loves working on the bench and talking about science. Outside science, she enjoys all kinds of music, watching TV shows, reading books and writing. She is an early-career researcher at PLOS group. PS, she has subscribed all streaming apps in the US.
